Crash into You (Pushing the Limits, #3)

UK VERSION - ABOUT THE BOOK

‘KISS ME,’ Isaiah whispers
My heart beats frantically
Isaiah is hot and scary and hot
Why would a guy like him want to be anywhere near A GIRL LIKE ME?
People expect Rachel Young to be the good girl who always gets straight As. But Rachel’s keeping her real life secret.
Her wealthy family have no idea that she loves racing strangers in her Mustang.
Or about dangerous, intense Isaiah Walker.
Isaiah has secrets too. And the last thing he needs is to get tangled up with a rich girl slumming it.
But when their shared love of speed puts their lives in
jeopardy, Isaiah and Rachel have six weeks to come up with a way out – and to discover just how far they’ll go to save each other.

Creating Rachel
(guest post by author Katie McGarry)

In CRASH INTO YOU, my third young adult novel, I wanted to show that sometimes heartbreak is actually the catalyst a person needs to find true love. This is true for my main character, Isaiah.

As anyone who’s read my previous two books knows, Isaiah’s been in love with his best friend, Beth, for what feels like ages. In my first book, PUSHING THE LIMITS, we saw the lines blur in their complex relationship. In my second book, DARE YOU TO, Beth realized Isaiah was not the guy she was in love with. The scene where she confronted him with this revelation ripped out my heart.

From Beth’s point of view in DARE YOU TO as she confronts Isaiah:

I try to physically shake the tears forming, but his hold on my face makes it impossible. We haven’t talked for weeks, but I knew, in the deep recesses of my mind, that our separation was temporary. This somehow feels too real and that means this goodbye could be concrete. I can’t lose him. I can’t. “I mean it. I love you.”
Like a friend. Like my best friend. Before Groveton, I never understood love and now…I still don’t understand it. But I know that it’s not emptiness, I know it’s not letting a guy use me, I know there are different types and what I feel for Isaiah…it’s not how I feel when I’m with Ryan.
Isaiah rests his forehead on mine. “Like you love him. Tell me you love me as much as you love him.”

Isaiah had his heart utterly and completely broken in DARE YOU TO. So much so that when I wrote that scene, I was in tears and was unable to write anymore for that day.

I broke the heart of the character I had developed a huge crush on. At that moment, I hated myself.

Luckily, I was given a chance to heal Isaiah’s heart and this healing happens in CRASH INTO YOU.

I spent a long time creating the right girl for Isaiah. He is a complicated person so I knew that the girl who would challenge him would also be somewhat complicated.

She had to be tough, but Beth was tough, so I knew that the girl meant for Isaiah also needed to be outwardly vulnerable. I needed someone who would challenge Isaiah’s belief system that he was a street rat who would always be a street rat. For that reason, I made Isaiah’s new love interest come from an affluent family.

Isaiah, deep in his soul, felt like he never belonged anywhere and that is what I knew this new female character also had to feel. This would be the thing that would unite them when everything else on the outside said they were complete opposites.

So this is who I created: Rachel Young.

I made her a junior in high school and a year younger than Isaiah. She’s from one of the richest families in the state and attends private school. She’s beautiful, loves fast cars, and on the outside, she has the whole world dangling at her fingertips, but then I made her real.

Everyone has problems, no matter how much money they make. Rachel suffers from panic attacks, but she hides them from her family because she doesn’t want anyone to think she’s weak. Rachel is drawn to Isaiah because of his strength and after a night where Rachel keeps Isaiah from being arrested at a drag race, he’s drawn to her for the same reason.

Rachel doesn’t feel like she fits in at home or in her family’s world. Isaiah feels as if he will never belong with anyone.

One chance meeting, one moment of courage, and two lives are intertwined forever.

I can’t wait for everyone to see how Isaiah and Rachel’s story unfolds.

  4. Its a great, well written story. The characters are believable. They feel real without being campy. This is the best one in the series. The other two are amazing, I'm look forward to the next one.
