Waiting On Wednesday (35)

GAMEBOARD OF THE GODS
  RICHELLE MEAD

Gameboard of the Gods (Age of X, #1)
June 4th 2013
~ Dutton Adult ~

In a futuristic world nearly destroyed by religious extremists, Justin March lives in exile after failing in his job as an investigator of religious groups and supernatural claims. But Justin is given a second chance when Mae Koskinen comes to bring him back to the Republic of United North America (RUNA). Raised in an aristocratic caste, Mae is now a member of the military’s most elite and terrifying tier, a soldier with enhanced reflexes and skills.

When Justin and Mae are assigned to work together to solve a string of ritualistic murders, they soon realize that their discoveries have exposed them to terrible danger. As their investigation races forward, unknown enemies and powers greater than they can imagine are gathering in the shadows, ready to reclaim the world in which humans are merely game pieces on their board.

Gameboard of the Gods, the first installment of Richelle Mead’s Age of X series, will have all the elements that have made her YA Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series such megasuccesses: sexy, irresistible characters; romantic and mythological intrigue; and relentless action and suspense.

Do I really have to explain?? It's RICHELLE MEAD. The creator of one of my favourite ever series VA and Bloodlines. Of course I'll read this!!! I never read any of her adult stuff yet (I know, I really need to but there's a big pile of books staring at me wanting me to read them s0) but I'm really super duper excited for this!

This is unrelated to this book, but have you heard about the 4th Bloodlines book (The Fiery Heart) will be told in both Sydney AND Adrian's POV?? I DIE. Sydrian is one of my favourite couples ever and Adrian is at the top of my book boyfriends. So there! :D

Cover Thoughts:

I really don't get how someone as famous and amazing as Richelle Mead always ends up with crappy covers. I mean, seriously, did you see the VA/Bloodlines covers? It looks like the person who designed it was blind or something. Grrr. And I'm sorry to say to this cover looks fanmade or one for self-pub

So, what are YOU waiting for this Wednesday? And like me, are you waiting for this book aswell? :)

To survive, Greta has hidden her humanity and taken the job of bounty hunter—and she’s good at what she does. So good, she’s caught the attention of Mylena’s young goblin king, the darkly enticing Isaac, who invades her dreams and undermines her will to escape.

But Greta’s not the only one looking to get out of Mylena. An ancient evil knows she’s the key to opening the portal, and with the next eclipse mere days away, every bloodthirsty creature in the realm is after her—including Isaac. If Greta fails, she and the lost boys of Mylena will die. If she succeeds, no world will be safe from what follows her back...

Chloe JacobsABOUT THE AUTHOR:
Chloe Jacobs is a native of nowhere and everywhere, having jumped around to practically every Province of Canada before finally settling in Ontario where she has now been living for a respectable number of years. Her husband and son are the two best people in the entire world, but they also make her wish she'd at least gotten a female cat. No such luck. And although the day job keeps her busy, she carves out as much time as possible to write. Bringing new characters to life and finding out what makes them tick and how badly she can make them suffer is one of her greatest pleasures, almost better than chocolate and fuzzy pink bunny slippers.

Since the age of three, sixteen-year-old Evelyn Winters has been trained to be Daughter of the People in the underwater utopia known as Elysium. Selected from hundreds of children for her ideal genes, all her life she’s thought that everything was perfect; her world. Her people. The Law.

But when Gavin Hunter, a Surface Dweller, accidentally stumbles into their secluded little world, she’s forced to come to a startling realization: everything she knows is a lie.

Her memories have been altered.

Her mind and body aren’t under her own control.

And the person she knows as Mother is a monster.

Together with Gavin she plans her escape, only to learn that her own mind is a ticking time bomb... and Mother has one last secret that will destroy them all.

This book had SO much potential. Grrrr. You know that feeling when you're preparing to enjoy a book so much and then you read it and hated it? Yep. That's exactly how I'm feeling right now.  So many people enjoyed this that I'm just so pissed that I didn't.

At the start, I LOVED it. The repetition of the days was really effective and I thought that was smart. But then Evelyn's naiveness and stupidity kinda got to me. And don't even talk to me about Mother. She reminded me of Ursula, the octupus sea witch thingy from The Little Mermaid. And then the plot just kinda turned into like all of the other dystopians/utopians out more. Yawn.

The romance just didn't really make sense to me. I'M A SUCKER FOR ROMANCE BUT. This love story just didn't really captivate me. I personally thought it moved too fast, and unrealistic. First they're like 'enemies' and didn't want to trust each other, the next they're plotting stuff together. Like, what the hell. This aspect was one of the main reasons why I couldn't continue this book any longer.

After 200 pages, I just had to put this down. I was freaking bored out of my mind. Like, seriously. I actually watched football on tv instead of reading this. That's how serious it it, guys. I then skipped to the end and decided to see if it was any better. Nah. It wasn't.

I'm so gutted about this. Between that gorgeous cover, that unique summary and the hype around this, I was hoping for more.

Showcase Sunday (20)

Hosted by the lovely Books, Biscuits and Tea, the aim of Showcase Sunday is to highlight our newest books or book related swag and to see what everyone else received for review, borrowed from libraries, bought in bookshops and downloaded onto e-readers each week.

This is from a two-week haul since I didn't get enough books last week. :)
BOUGHT:

One Night with a Hero (The Hero, #2)Roar and Liv (Under the Never Sky, #0.5)The Crimson Hunt (Eldaen Light Chronicles, #1)

One Night with a Hero by Laura Kaye
This is the second book of The Hero series and I loved it as much as Her Forbidden Hero. Equally as hot and steamy, and I loved the drama and how realistic it is.
Roar and Liv by Veronica Rossi
This is an Under The Never Sky prequel novella and centers around Perry's bestfriend and girlfriend, Roar and Liv. Roar is my favourite character from the whole series so getting to read and know more about him was great. Already read and it's a must have!
The Crimson Hunt by Victoria H. Smith
This is a New Adult sci-fi romance and as you know, I am LOVING New Adult and the fact that it's part sci-fi and part romance! Hope I won't be disappointed!

November Question:
If you were trapped on an island all by yourself and you could only bring one thing, what would it be and why? – Sanara
My Response:
I’m not trapped, angel. I’m exactly where I want to be—with you. You’re my thing, Sanara. You’ll always be my thing. What guy wouldn’t want that situation? The evening breeze rolling in off the ocean, warm sand beneath us, and my arms holding you against me. Do you mind the moon illuminating the dragon tattoo on my back, or the way I whisper softly in your ear as you fall asleep curled against me? Because I can’t help who I am, or what I want. But I’ll tell you one thing, Sanara, if I had to choose, I choose you. The question is: would you be afraid being all alone with a demon? Would you shiver with delicious fright each time I step closer on this island of yours? Or deep down, in some animalistic way—is that the exact answer you were looking for? – Dante

3. The lovely creator of Dante (aka Victoria Scott) created this FAN ART page for all Dante fans! Check out the other lovely ones HERE.
