Author Interview: Brigid Kemmerer

  ~ BRIGID KEMMERER ~

I think this series will hold the prize for the HOTTEST BROTHERS EVER.. *dreamy sigh* I would like to welcome you the author of the ELEMENTAL series, Brigid Kemmerer *applause*

1. For anyone that is not familiar with your book STORM, can you give us a little introduction?

Storm follows Chris, who, at 16, is the youngest Merrick brother. When he meets Becca, she’s saving him from getting beaten up in the school parking lot. Chris’s life is full of action and adventure and paranormal excitement—but at its root, it’s a story about family, and brotherhood, and standing up for yourself.

2. Who would play the four brothers if STORM become a movie/tv series? And who would play the main female led Becca?

I wish I could say that I’ve never thought of the answer to this question. :-) I’ve always thought that Taylor Kitsch (Tim Riggins on Friday Night Lights) could play Michael, Gray Damon (various roles) could play Nick and Gabriel (they’re twins), and Steven McQueen (Jeremy Gilbert on The Vampire Diaries) could play Chris. He has the perfect mysterious, brooding look. Chord Overstreet (Sam from Glee) would make a great Hunter. I always have a hard time casting Becca! Probably a dark haired Emma Stone (Easy A).

3. Can you tell us anything about the Merrick brothers that no one else knows?

You mean, like whether they prefer boxers or briefs? I can’t tell you that. They’d kill me.

(Me: Oh damn.. I was hoping for that!)

4.  Did you have any input on the cover? Did you imagined/expected it to look different? If you had your way, what would the cover look like?

Kensington is a fabulous publisher. I was asked whether I had any thoughts about a cover. I didn’t really have any. I’m a writer, not a visual marketer. I went into it without any expectations, and I think both Kensington and Allen & Unwin (my Australian publisher) did an amazing job capturing the books visually.

5. As a reader, which part of the book is most important to you, the plot or the characters? And is it different if you're a writer?

Character! In both cases. If a character can win me over, I’ll follow him/her anywhere, and through anything. A great character can carry a weak plot. I don’t think it works as well the other way around.

6. If you were a character in your own series, which brother would you most likely be attracted to?

Oh, wow, this is a tough question! I love them all. Me, personally, I’d probably be attracted to Michael.

7.Finish the sentence: A book I wish I had written is...

Under the Never Sky. I just finished reading it, and I loved it. I want to read it again.

8. What was the publishing experience like for you?

Surreal. I’ve loved every minute of it. I still can’t believe it’s happening.

9. Aside from the ELEMENTAL series, what can we expect from you in the future?

I have a few more ideas in my back pocket, but nothing concrete at this point. I just know there’s more paranormal / urban fantasy in my future, that’s for sure.

10. And finally, what are your plans regarding the release day? Are you having a launch party?

I am having a launch party – and you’re all invited! April 28, 2012, Barnes & Noble in Ellicott City, Maryland, at 2pm. I’d love to see you there!

Thank you so much, Brigid! I wish I could come to your launch party, and sucks I live in England... *sigh*
Psst. STORM (Elemental #1) comes out in 11 days! GO! Pre-order a copy now!

STORM:
Earth, Fire, Air, Water – they have more power than you dream.

Ever since her ex-boyfriend spread those lies about her, Becca Chandler is suddenly getting all the guys—all the ones she doesn't want. Then she saves Chris Merrick from a beating in the school parking lot. Chris is different. Way different: he can control water—just like his brothers can control fire, wind, and earth. They’re powerful. Dangerous. Marked for death.

And now that she knows the truth, so is Becca.

Secrets are hard to keep when your life’s at stake. When Hunter, the mysterious new kid around school, turns up with a talent for being in the wrong place at the right time, Becca thinks she can trust him. But then Hunter goes head-to-head with Chris, and Becca wonders who’s hiding the most dangerous truth of all.

The storm is coming . . .
