Author Interview: K.C. Blake

~ K.C. BLAKE ~

Author of: Vampires Rule, Werewolves Rule and Crushed.

:: Where did the idea for Witch Hunt come from?

Every other book seems to be about vampires these days.  My agent told me to pick a different paranormal element, something people don’t see every day, and run with it.  After researching a variety of supernatural creatures, I decided to go with witches.  But I still needed a good hook, so I asked myself what teen girls would do if they had magical powers.  The answer was simple.  They would use the magic to play games and toy with the boys they liked.

:: Witch Hunt is the second book in the series.  Do I need to read Crushed first?

No.  Every Witch-Game book has a different set of characters and a brand new game to play.  A person could choose to read Crushed or not to read it.  They could read it first or read Witch Hunt first.  It won’t matter.  Every book begins with a prologue that explains the game’s rules.

:: Which character in Witch Hunt was your favorite to write for?

That’s a tough question.  I loved Starr (my protagonist) because she’s determined to get her story, and she’s tough and fearless.  Her best friend Lily is fun.  The girl is so clueless.  She constantly interrupts Starr and Dylan when they are trying to have a ‘moment.’  Then there’s Bex, a face-painting, mustard on French Fries eating, rude girl.  She’s mean but fun.  And let’s not forget the boys.  Dylan acts tough, but he’s got a deeply vulnerable side.  The boy writes poetry.  Okay, it’s dark poetry about blood and death, but still... he’s a great catch for Starr.  His friend Ryder comes off as mean too, but he’s not that bad.  Really.

:: If Witch Hunt became a movie, who would your dream cast be?

Starr would be played by Alicia Silverstone back in her Aerosmith days.  I had her pictured from the Cryin’ video when I wrote the book.  Dylan would be played by Garrett Hedlund back when he was in the movie Four Brothers.  His hair was awesome and he brought such a vulnerability to the role, it was incredible.  I see Lily as Liv Tyler (also from the Aerosmith video days).  She appeared in the video Crazy with Alicia.  They had great chemistry.  Ryder would be played by this guy from General Hospital .  I can’t remember his real name.  He played Ethan.  He would have to be a bit younger, of course.  Anyway, that’s my dream cast, a blend of people from now and twenty years ago.

:: Do you know what the next book in the Witch-Game series will be?

I think so.  I have a few different games in mind, but I think the next one will be Raven’s Claw.  It will be about a bad luck charm that is passed around for fun, but when a real witch gets their hands on it, bad things happen.  This is a book I haven’t started to write yet.  I have other books to finish first.

:: What books are those?  What do you have out now, and what is on it’s way?

Vampires Rule and Werewolves Rule (the first and second in the Rule series) are available at Amazon, Smashwords, B&N, etc.  There are Crushed and Witch Hunt, of course.  Then I have two fully written books that need to be reworked and edited.  The third in the Rule series, Shifters Rule will hopefully be released in the Fall.  Dragon’s Breath will probably come out some time this year too.  Fingers crossed.

:: Is there anything else you’d like the readers to know?
Yes.  I want them to know that I appreciate them and love to hear from them.  They can find me on my blog here: http://kasi-kcblake.blogspot.com and on Goodreads as K.C. Blake without any spaces between the initials.
