Blog tour: Out Of Line - Jen McLaughlin (Character Journal and Review)

: ABOUT THE BOOK :

OUT OF LINE by Jen McLaughlin (Diane Alberts)
NA Contemporary Romance

Out of Line

Desperate to break free…

I've spent my entire life under my father’s thumb, but now I'm finally free to make my own choices. When my roommate dragged me to my first college party, I met Finn Coram and my life turned inside out. He knows how to break the rules and is everything I never knew I wanted. A Marine by day and surfer by night, he pushes me away even as our attraction brings us closer. Now I am finally free to do whatever I want. I know what I want. I choose Finn.

Trying to play by the rules...

I always follow orders. My job, my life, depends on it. I thought this job would be easy, all the rules were made crystal clear, but when I met Carrie Wallington, everything got muddy. She's a rule I know I shouldn't break, but damn if I don’t inch closer to the breaking point each time I see her. I’m ready to step out of line. And even worse? I’m living a lie. They say the truth will set you free, but in my case…

The truth will cost me everything.

:CHARACTER JOURNAL POST - finn :

Journal #1 (Finn)

Journal:

Today, I met Carrie Wallington. To be honest, she’s not what I was expecting at all. The way the senator described her, I was expecting some bimbo who forgot which hand was her left, and didn’t know how to walk in a circle. Instead…I got Carrie.

She seems smart. Funny. Pretty…

No, not pretty. I’m not allowed to think of her like that, and I better remember it. No matter how much I might wish otherwise, she’s an assignment.

And that’s all she’ll ever be.

I have to go meet her now for shopping. Yeah, fucking shopping. That’s my life now.

Wish me luck.

- Finn

: MY REVIEW :

Okay, where do I start? All I know is that I mega loved this book. Like loved-it-so-much-had-to-read-it-again love. OUT OF LINE has got to be the best New Adult book I've ever read so far, and that is saying a LOT since I've read a lot of them.

Carrie really stood out for me in this book. Gosh I adore this girl to pieces. She's the most caring and thoughtful girl. I mean, who would donate their clothes and give up their time to help others? When she's probably the richest girl and you'd expect her to be snobby and spoiled, you find out she's the opposite. I loved Carrie. She's not a party girl and really different from her peers. I love how she saw the best in everyone and I can definitely say she's one of my favourite protagonists.

Finn. OH MY GOSH FINN. Can I marry him??!? You guys know I have a thing for Marines and surfers, right? Finn can be quite alpha male and possessive (a bit) but he's also so considerate, and sweet and GET READY..he cooks for her! He cooks for her while she study! He's that kind of guy. I loved his POV as we find out how and when he really began to care for Carrie, and as not just an assignment to him. He's so swooony!!!

The romance in this was not also just hot and steamy, but there was no insta-love at all (hurrah) and it was at a realistic pace. My favourite scenes in this were not the love scenes (surprise!) but when they just hang around together. They just bring the best out of each other, and while they are really the complete opposites, they do have that chemistry that I love reading about. That said, the love scenes were very beautifully done and in my opinion, it wasn't as explicit or as racy as others, which I liked. :)

I know the plot has been done loads before, but it really didn't bother me. To me, it was perfect. The writing and the execution was ah-mazing and I really can't find a fault in the author's writing. Oh, and can I just say that I want to hug the author for creating NA characters that DON'T have a really tramautic/troubled past? Because that, is seriously getting old and OUT OF LINE was a breath of fresh air.

So before I get carried away by going on and on about my love for Finn (read this, you'll understand), I just want to say to PLEASE GO BUY AND READ THIS BOOK. It's one of my top reads this year and I've already re-read it. It's that GOOOOOOD.
