Knowing the outcome doesn’t always make a choice easier . . .
Addison Coleman’s life is one big “What if?” As a Searcher, whenever Addie is faced with a choice, she can look into the future and see both outcomes. It’s the ultimate insurance plan against disaster. Or so she thought. When Addie’s parents ambush her with the news of their divorce, she has to pick who she wants to live with—her father, who is leaving the paranormal compound to live among the “Norms,” or her mother, who is staying in the life Addie has always known. Addie loves her life just as it is, so her answer should be easy. One Search six weeks into the future proves it’s not.
In one potential future, Addie is adjusting to life outside the Compound as the new girl in a Norm high school where she meets Trevor, a cute, sensitive artist who understands her. In the other path, Addie is being pursued by the hottest guy in school—but she never wanted to be a quarterback’s girlfriend. When Addie’s father is asked to consult on a murder in the Compound, she’s unwittingly drawn into a dangerous game that threatens everything she holds dear. With love and loss in both lives, it all comes down to which reality she’s willing to live through . . . and who she can’t live without.
From the first page I was so engrossed in this book. I just never expected to like and enjoy this as much as I did; I was genuinely surprised! It also took me out of my stupid stupid stupid long reading slump for which I am so glad. This book hooks you in from the first chapter and never lets you go until the end. I love how each chapter has a mini-heading that kinda hints at what's going to happen in that chapter. And it tells you if it's the NORM or the PARANORMAL. I really liked that small detail :)
I love how it alternates between her two possible choices and even though it changes, we still have enough time to spend time with the characters from each choice. We have Trevor and his friends in the 'norm' and then we have Duke and Laila her bestfriend in the paranormal compound. Can I just say, I HATED Laila! I think she's a right bitch who doesn't deserve Addie's loyal friendship!
I have no problems with the plot at all! I think it was just perfect and I love how each and everyone of the people in the paranormal compound has different powers. Laila's power was probably my favourite, which is that she can erase a memory - fyi that'll be super handy to me, I have a LOT of memories that I kinda want to delete, thank you very much) :P
Addie is now one of my favourite YA heroines! I just adored her! When her parents suddenly want to split up and seperate, you just can't help but sympathize with what she's going through and how she can't pick between her parents and where to live and who to live with. That's how this all started. She wanted to know both the consequences and results of her staying with her mum in the paranormal compound, and going away with her dad to the 'norm'. And of course, her power I think is so effing cool and brilliant, I mean, who wouldn't want to know the outcome before making a decision? (Although, as the summary says, it doesn't always make the choice easier if you do know.)You guys know how much I HATE love triangles and yes, this one does have one. But surprisingly I actually didn't mind it. It was interesting to see how it plans out in the end and how her choices does change who she's going to end up with. I admit that I fell in love with the wrong guy, who I thought was good and then he was just...not. The other guy kinda fell flat for me and I was quite sad that he was the one. I'm just hoping that we'd see more development from his character in the sequel and whether I'd fall for him. :P
I think my only negative thing I would say about this is the way the story ended. I thought it ended too abruptly and too fast. I know there is a sequel but I would have like for more closure, I think. But that it just a teeny tiny thing so don't certainly let that keep you from buying and reading this! Definitely one of the best and most original paranormal stories out there right now!
This book sounds incredible!! I've already bought it... I'm going to read it next.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you've enjoyed it! :D
